This green, cool breeze city is the provincial capital and sits at the base of Mt. Apo, the tallest mountain in the Philippines. Hiking and trekking are the big draw of Kidapawan but those that enjoy the hillside resorts, hot sulfur springs and bird watching are also finding themselves drawn here.
Those who want to climb Mt. Apo’s staggering 10,311 feet peak can do so by the trails which lead up the mountains side of Kidapawan. This particular side is known as the easiest side to climb as the Davao and Cotabato sides are much steeper and more difficult to maneuver. To climb and return from Mt. Alpo’s peak one should set aside at least 4 days unless you intend to miss the great stop overs along the way.
Other sites to visit and enjoy are the Lake Agco where hot sulfur springs collide with cold springs, a unique steamy effect on this blue mountain lake. Soak in the muddy hot springs of Mainit and cross the raging river of Marbel. Find Lake Venado high in the top of Mt. Apo tucked away where many pass without seeing it. Be sure to track down Marbel Falls a beautiful twin falls surrounded by hot springs and dropping over 70 feet down the steeps sides of Apo Mountain.
Festivals are a part of the Philippines that continue in celebration of many events. Kidapawan has the August festival known as the Timpupu Fruit Festival, a thanksgiving of sort for the locals and their bountiful fruit harvests.
